AISC History

Dhyan Chand Trophy

On 3-5 June 2023 in Wellington AISC will play  in the Annual NZISA King’s Birthday Tournament.

This tournament will include competing for the esteemed Dhyan Chand Trophy. It is steeped in history and was first challenged for in 1963.

Wellington won this coveted trophy in 1963 and 1964 with AISC’s maiden victory in Wellington in 1965.

QBT 1965 - AISC, Winners of the Dhyan Chand Trophy.

Mohan Ganda scored the winning goal with AISC taking it out 1-0 against Wellington ISC.

Mohan Naran was the first victorious captain to bathe in the glory of lifting this trophy.

Over the years AISC has won the trophy on many occasions , the last being a penalty shootout victory in Pukekohe in 2021 against Pukekohe ISC. AISC was down 0-1 until the final 2 minutes and it looked like the match was gone when Johnny Bilkey scored the equaliser (a well taken shot past the right hand glove which caught the keeper by surprise) to force a penalty shootout. Shae Iswar scored the winning penalty dragging past the keeper placing the ball into the goal sending AISC supporters wild. Those that were there that day witnessed one of the great AISC victories that KBT can bring out. Keshan Narsai (captain)  lifted the Dhyan Chand trophy that day for the first time for AISC since 2015 at North Harbour.

AISC had held the trophy for 5 consecutive years from 2011 to 2015 and has also held it for 5 years in a row from 1977 to 1981 among the times when we have held that trophy.

All the best for all AISC teams in Wellington this year.
