Division 1 Women Recap

It has been an exciting season for our D1 women’s team, stepping up to a challenge, as we were promoted to the division one competition for the 2023 season.

Despite a disappointing shoot-out loss in the 2022 D2 Women’s Championship final, our  then D2 women’s team were offered the opportunity to enter a team in the D1W grade.

Round one of the D1W’s competition saw our team come away with a mixed bag of results. Unfortunately, come round two, we were unable to retain a position in the upper half of the ladder, placing us in the Minor Championship competition.

A short break from Club hockey over the King’s Birthday weekend saw majority of our team travel down to Wellington to represent Auckland in the King’s Birthday Tournament. A big thanks to Aleesha Nana, Shareena Nana and Natasha Pringle, who are not a part of the season’s club team, but joined our squad for the tournament. The tournament results consisted of a thrilling win, obtained from a shoot-out, against BOPISC, back-to-back losses against PISC and NHISC, and a win against WISC.

In round two of the regular season’s competition, we continued to secure a mixed bag of results. Despite not securing the final ranking we would have preferred, our team have completed a commendable first season competing in this new grade. It has been a welcome challenge and has provided a valuable opportunity to level up our skill and style of hockey.

We are extremely thankful to the dedication, expertise and belief from our brilliant coach, Rochi. Her wealth of knowledge about the game and commitment to the team have undoubtedly been contributing factors to the development and growth our team has achieved.

A special thanks to several of the D2 women who have kindly made themselves available to help our team on occasion; to Kieren, Miten and Manoj for stepping in to coach in Rochi’s absence; to those who have umpired our games; those who have stuck around to cheer our team on, and our faithful supporters who come out each weekend - we appreciate you all!

We are looking forward to taking the turf again in 2024 and are excited to see how the next season will shape up for our team.
