Remembering Ronnie Nathoo

Ronnie Nathoo – 14th November 1950 - 7th July 2023

The Club has lost a long-standing stalwart of the Club in Ronnie Nathoo. He

was 72 years old. He joined the Club in 1983, after moving from Taupo. He was

in the Club hockey team that travelled to Fiji in 1983. He played in various

Division teams, finally ending up in the “Professionals” team, and when that

disbanded, moved in with the Men’s MC3A team in the mid-1990s. He

travelled to Canada with the 1999 Club Cricket team.  He was constantly on

and off the Executive Committee and held various positions in the Club,

including Club Captain.

He was President of the Club for three years from 2004 to 2006, and was

President when the Club hosted the NZISA Queen’s Birthday Tournament in

2004. He became a certified Grade 2 New Zealand Hockey Federation umpire

in 2000. Over the last 25 years, he was the liaison officer for over 16 visiting

international hockey teams. The Club awarded him a Presidential Award in

2009.

In 2003 he helped organize the first International Golden Oldies tour for the

MC3 team to Fiji. This was only the first of many trips. The team went on to

travel to Adelaide, Argentina, Brazil and Las Vegas. When the team no longer

travelled, he took the small group that would travel and formed an

An international team that travelled to Germany, South Africa and Canada.

His passion was in meeting people and organizing group travel. He will be

sorely missed.

Our sympathies go out to his wife Nanette and his children, Roshni and Anil

and his grandchildren.
